MATT WILIER
Born in Paris, Matt Wilier is a composer and pianist whose musical universe unfolds between neoclassicism, repetitive minimalism, and film scoring. At the age of five, a Pleyel piano discovered at his great-grandparents' home sparked a vocation rooted in improvisation and inner listening. Self-taught in his early years, he later embraced the rigor of the conservatory before carving out a personal path that balances formal precision with expressive freedom.
His music is instantly recognizable: hypnotic clusters, meditative repetitions, and harmonies suspended in time. Influenced by Keith Jarrett, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Philip Glass, Hania Rani, and Maurice Ravel, he has developed a unique, intimate, and cinematic language. The piano is the beating heart of his work, often layered with electronic textures or discreet strings, as heard in his 2024 album Variations, which is structured like an internal soundtrack.
Matt Wilier creates music that is accessible and emotional without ever yielding to simplicity. His compositions invite contemplation, stillness, and introspection. They naturally find their place in audiovisual projects where subtle emotion and sensory storytelling take center stage.
